St. John Fisher College’s Ryan Schmidt (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) of the football team has been named as its Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 12, 2010.

In a 54-26 win over the hosting Buffalo State Bengals, Schmidt tallied seven receptions for 152 yards (both career-highs) and three touchdowns, tying the College’s single-game record.

In the Cardinals’ second drive of the day, Schmidt grabbed a career-best 47-yard long pass and took it in for the touchdown that produced Fisher’s first lead of the game at 14-7.

He also scored on passes of 33 and 27 yards – both of which came in the first half.
The junior wide receiver leads the Cardinals on the season with 11 receptions for 195 total yards and three touchdowns.

The Cardinals, now 2-0, return to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday and will play University of Rochester in Courage Bowl VI at Marina Auto Stadium in downtown Rochester. The game is dedicated to the children of Camp Good Days and Special Times. Since its inception, Fisher has won all five of the previous Courage Bowls.
