St. John Fisher College has named Katie Barlow (Shaker/Latham) of the women’s tennis team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 5, 2009.

The Cardinals opened the week with a 6-3 loss to neighboring rival Nazareth College, before picking up two conference wins on the weekend.  Fisher defeated Hartwick College 6-3 on Saturday.  Barlow recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory at third singles, and paired with partner Katie Catalano (Nazareth Academy/Spencerport) to pick up an 8-3 win at second doubles.  The Cardinals then traveled to Utica College on Sunday for a 9-0 win, where Barlow cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in singles, and an 8-0 win at doubles.

Barlow is now 6-3 overall (4-2 E8) in singles play and 5-4 in doubles competition.  She ranks third in the Empire 8 with four wins at third singles.  The Cardinals look to improve their conference record when they host the Ithaca Bombers Tuesday at 4 p.m. on the Fisher courts.
