St. John Fisher College has named #Leo Fusilli# of the baseball team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 5, 2009.
In a pair of home doubleheaders against Keuka College and Utica College on Tuesday and Sunday, the Cardinals posted a perfect 4-0 record, with Fusilli recording a .500 average (7-for-14) with four runs scored, four RBI and two stolen bases in the wins.
The sophomore catcher went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI in Fisher’s 20-3 win over Keuka to open the week. Fusilli (1-for-3, one RBI) and the Cardinals carried the momentum into the finale with a 6-0 shutout over the Storm in the finale.
Fusilli picked up a hit and scored a run in the opener against Utica on Sunday, a 14-0 win for the Cardinals, and added two more singles in four at-bats in a 6-5 Fisher win to close out the week. After falling behind 5-3 through six innings, the Cardinals came through with some clutch hitting to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win from the Pioneers.
Fusilli leads the team with an incredible .477 batting average on the year (31-for-65), while ranking second on the team with 23 RBI and fourth on the team with 20 runs.
