St. John Fisher College has named #Jeff Price# of the men’s lacrosse team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 29, 2009.
In a pair of wins, the junior midfielder registered a team-best nine points on six goals and three assists as the Cardinals, ranked 22nd nationally, improved to a perfect 9-0 on the season.
Fisher opened the week with a 19-6 win over Elmira College in the first Empire 8 game of the season for both squads. With the game tied at 1-1 midway through the first half, Fisher scored the game’s next six goals, including two from Price, to take command and led 9-3 at intermission. The Cardinals also scored the first six goals of the second half to pull away. Price scored three times and dished out three assists for a career-high six points in the win.
Price continued to frustrate the opposition with three more goals in the Cardinals’ 7-5 win over Hartwick College on Saturday. After seeing a three-goal lead erased with three unanswered goals to tie the game at four by the Hawks, Fisher responded with a decisive 3-0 run of its own to put the game away. Price registered his second and third goals of the contest just 67 seconds apart in the game-winning run, and gave a Fisher a 7-4 lead with just over three minutes remaining.
For the season, Price ranks third on the team with 17 goals, and sits in fifth with 22 total points.
The Cardinals (9-0 overall, 2-0 E8) will take on No.4 Ithaca College (8-0, 1-0) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in a matchup of two of the Empire 8’s top teams.
