St. John Fisher College has named #Teagen Barresi# of the baseball team as the College’s Male Athlete of the week for the week ending March 22, 2009.
In a 2-1 week for the Cardinals (6-4), the freshman third baseman went 7-for-16 (.438 BA) with three triples and six RBI in 15 at-bats.
On Friday, Barresi went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in Fisher’s first of three meetings against Muhlenberg College, but it wasn’t enough as the host Mules rallied for an improbable win. After scoring five runs in the top of the ninth, the Cardinals enjoyed a 9-3 lead going into the bottom half of the inning, but Muhlenberg scored seven runs in their final at-bat, six of which came with two outs to earn the win.
After picking up a triple in the first game of a doubleheader against the Mules on Saturday, a 4-3 win for Fisher, Barresi got hot in the final game of the week. Barresi led the Cardinals, going 4-for-7 with a pair of triples that brought in four runs, in a decisive 22-5 win over the Mules in the final game.
After going 0-for-2 in his first game, the freshman third baseman has a nine-game hitting streak. He's started in all 10 games and is batting .405 for the year, while leading the team in hits (17), runs (17) and RBI (12).
Fisher will host SUNY Brockport at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Dugan Yard in the Cardinals’ first home game of the season.
