St. John Fisher College’s #Colleen Maloney# has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 8, 2009.
Maloney led the Cardinals to two wins at the ECAC Upstate Championship and was named as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
In Saturday’s title game, the sophomore tallied 17 points and four steals to lead the Cardinals to a 60-44 win over No. 2 Ithaca College on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill.
The win marks Fisher's fourth ECAC title since 1999 and the program's third this decade. The win was also Fisher's third victory over Ithaca this season.
Fisher advanced to Saturday’s title game after knocking off top-seeded SUNY Cobleskill 67-52 on Friday night. Maloney led the Cardinals with a career-high 27 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the floor, including 3-for-6 from 3-point range, while also going 8-for-11 from the foul line. She also finished with a team-high seven rebounds and four steals.
For the season, Maloney, who started in 23 of the 26 games she played in, averaged a team-high 12.8 points, while ranking third on the team in steals and blocked shots. The Empire 8 Second Team selection also finished the year with a team-high 38 3-pointers, bringing her career-total to 62 (eighth all-time at Fisher).
