St. John Fisher College’s #Mike Wopperer# has been named as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 8, 2009.

Wopperer led the Cardinals to a runner-up finish in the ECAC Upstate Championship this past weekend.

In Saturday’s title game, the junior center led the Cardinals with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting, but it wasn’t enough, as visiting Hartwick College ended Fisher’s season with a 69-60 win.

Fisher advanced to Saturday’s title game after knocking off SUNY Oswego 72-71 on Friday night. Wopperer shot 9-for-12 from the floor and finished with a team-high 18 points in the win.

The team co-captain also blocked a team-high four shots and snagged seven boards in the win.

For the season, Wopperer started in all 27 games for Fisher (17-10) and averaged a solid 9.0 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-best 50.2% from the floor.
