St. John Fisher College has selected #Meghan Soja# of the women’s basketball team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 1, 2009.

In a 1-1 weekend for Fisher, Soja averaged 9.0 points, 4.0 rebounds while shooting 50.0% from the field (4-of-8) and 90.9% from the free throw line (10-of-11).

In Fisher’s 68-53 win over Hartwick College on Friday, the freshman guard/forward registered seven points and four rebounds.   The Cardinals, who led by 10 at the half, continued to roll in the second half, leading by as many as 21 points.

Soja closed out the week with a career-high 11 points in her squad’s 77-43 loss to host Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday. Although she shot 7-for-7 from the foul line, Fisher struggled in the scoring department, shooting just 50% (10-for-20) from the foul line, 23.4% from the field (15-for-64), and 16.7% (3-for-18) from 3-point range.

For the season, Soja leads the team in free throw percentage (75.0%, 18-of-24), while averaging 3.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest. She has played in all 18 games in her first season with the Cardinals.
