St. John Fisher College has selected #Amanda Lax# of the women’s basketball team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 18, 2009.
In a 2-1 week that saw the Cardinals place second in the 43rd annual JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Tournament, the sophomore guard/forward averaged 6.0 points and 3.3 rebounds. Lax shot 55.5% from the floor (5-of-9) and 40% (2-of-5) from the 3-point line.
Lax’s best performance came in the semifinal game against Nazareth College, where she led the Cardinals to victory with a career-high 13 points, six of which came on 3-pointers. She played for a total of 16 minutes and shot 5-of-6 from the floor, helping her team rally from a seven-point deficit in the final three minutes and pick up a 55-53 win.
In Saturday’s championship game, Lax finished with four rebounds, three points, one block, and one assist, but it wasn’t enough, as the Cardinals dropped a 56-42 decision to University of Rochester, the nation’s No. 1 ranked team.
For the season, Lax is averaging 3.6 points and 2.0 rebounds per game and is shooting a team-best 35.7% from 3-point range.
Fisher (9-4 overall, 3-2 Empire 8) will resume its Empire 8 Conference schedule with a 6 p.m. tip off against host Cazenovia College on Wednesday.
