St. John Fisher College has selected #Brandon Witte#  of the men’s basketball team as the College's Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 7, 2008.

The Cardinals, who have won three in a row after dropping the season-opener, recorded a 56-54 win over host Hobart College in dramatic fashion in their only game of the week.

Witte came off the bench and scored all 13 of his points (career-high) in the second half, but his final bucket was clearly the biggest of his career. The sophomore caught the ball on the right side of court, just inside the 3-point lane, and drove through the lane and hit a floater from six feet away with 1.6 seconds left for the go-ahead basket. Hobart inbounded the ball and attempted a 3-pointer from just beyond half-court, but the shot banked off the rim.

For the season, the sophomore forward averages 8.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He leads the team with four blocked shots and has also recorded five assists and three steals on the year.

Fisher will be idle until December 29th and 30th, when the Cardinals return to action to host Saint Mary’s and Muskingum Colleges, respectively.
