St. John Fisher College has selected #Stephanie Sweeney# of the women’s basketball team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 7, 2008.
Although the sophomore guard didn’t attempt a shot from the field, Sweeney had a career day in leading the Cardinals to an 87-46 win over visiting Cazenovia College in the final game of the fall semester. She finished with eight assists, seven steals (both career-highs), five rebounds, and two points on a pair of free throws in the win.
Fisher (4-1) jumped out to a 17-0 lead over the opening 6:24 and never looked back, building up a 50-16 lead by intermission after shooting 58.8% from the floor.
At halftime, the College honored former head coach Phil Kahler, who led the Cardinals for each of the past 34 years, compiling a 797-175 overall record. He finished his career as the NCAA Division III all-time leader in win and was a two-time national coach of the year.
Thirteen of Fisher’s 14 players scored in the win, with every player seeing at least nine minutes action.
