St. John Fisher College has selected freshman forward/center #Kristi Jeffres# of the women’s basketball team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 30, 2008.

In their only game of the week, the Cardinals defeated visiting Buffalo State College 66-41. The victory marked the 800th win in the 35-year history of women’s basketball at Fisher.

Fisher is the all-time winningest program in NCAA Division III history and owns an overall record of 800-176, with 797 of the Cardinals’ victories coming from Phil Kahler, who retired earlier this month after guiding Fisher for 34 years.

In the victory, Jeffres posted a team-and-career-high 12 points, while blocking five shots in her first collegiate start. Jeffres went 6-of-9 from the floor and played 27 minutes.

The freshman forward/center averages 6.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Cardinals on 11-of-20 shooting (.550 field goal percentage) from the floor this season.

Fisher (3-1) will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday to host Cazenovia College.
