St. John Fisher College has named #Mary Dougherty#of the women’s soccer team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 2, 2008.

Dougherty lead the Cardinals, who wrapped up the season last week with a 1-1-1 showing, scoring two goals in the three games. Fisher recorded a tie with visiting SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday to open the week, before earning a 6-0 win over Alfred University on Thursday in Empire 8 action. The Cardinals ended the season on Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Buffalo State College.

Dougherty tied for second on the team with four goals this season, and ranked third with eight total points. In the 6-0 win over Alfred on Thursday, the junior midfielder put the Saxons away with two goals in the second half, capping a five-goal spurt over the final 33 minutes to give Fisher the win.

Dougherty netted her first goal in the 77th minute when #Kelly Zeppetella# left her the ball on a break away for a finish just under the crossbar. She added her second goal just 54 seconds later when she beat the keeper with a hard strike from the right side of the 18-yard box.

Dougherty made a shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the 4-1 loss to Buffalo State on Saturday, but a save by the Bengals’ goalie held the Cardinals off the scoreboard until the 58th minute, when #Jenny Mauro# recorded her first goal of the season with a lob over the keeper’s reach.

The Cardinals finished the season with a 6-10-2 overall record, and were 4-4 in Empire 8 Conference play.
