St. John Fisher College has named #Kelly Zeppetella# of the women’s soccer team as the as its Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 5, 2008.
Zeppetella helped lead Fisher to a 0-1-1 record over a two-game span last week.
In Saturday’s 1-1 decision at Clarkson University, the senior forward helped tie the game in the 67th minute. After a scramble in front of the net involving Zeppetella, the Golden Knights scored on themselves, knotting the game at 1-1.
Just moments later, Zeppetella nearly tallied the go-ahead goal, but the shot rang off the crossbar.
In Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to Nazareth, Zeppetella hit the left post on a break-away.
“Kelly has been playing very well for us,” says head coach #Jill McCabe#, now in her ninth season. “We haven’t gotten a lot of breaks this year, but if Kelly keeps playing the way she is right now, some of the shots that are hitting the posts are going to find the back of the net.”
Fisher (2-8-1, 0-3 Empire 8) will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will face Utica College (3-4-2, 1-0-2) in a key Empire 8 Conference match. On Sunday, Fisher will host Hartwick College (3-6-1, 1-2-1).
