St. John Fisher University Athletics

St. John Fisher College has named senior #Josh Gottlieb#  of the football team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 14, 2008.

In the Cardinals’ 20-7 win over visiting Buffalo State College, the fiery  inside linebacker recorded a game-high 12 tackles, including one sack and three tackles for a loss of 17 yards.

With the Cardinals holding a 10-0 lead in the fourth quarter, Gottlieb broke through the Bengals’ offensive line at the snap on first down and took Buffalo quarterback Mark Boswell down in the backfield for loss of seven yards. The Bengals offense never recovered, and was forced to punt two plays later, setting up a one-play touchdown drive for the Cardinals that sealed the win.

For the season, Gottlieb leads the team with 17 tackles (14 solo), and three tackles-for-loss. The senior’s fourth-quarter sack was his first of the season.

 

Fisher (1-1 overall) will return to action next at 7 p.m. on Saturday to take on host University of Rochester in Courage Bowl IV, a contest dedicated to the children of Camp Good Days and Special Times.
