How They Got Here

No. 1-Seeded St. John Fisher: The Cardinals punched their ticket to the E8 championship game for the 14th consecutive season and 16th time overall with a 17-4 victory over No. 4-seeded Utica on Thursday night at Growney Stadium. Sophomore attacker/midfielder Athena Lazina scored a career-high five goals and the Cardinals caused 21 turnovers, the most they have ever recorded in an Empire 8 Tournament game. Senior defender Maddie Lowney led the way with four caused turnovers.

The Cardinals finished the regular season 13-4 overall and went unbeaten (9-0) in Empire 8 play for the seventh consecutive year to earn the top seed for the conference tournament. Ranked in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Top 25 for most of the season, Fisher has won the Empire 8 title and made the NCAA Tournament 13 seasons in a row.

The Cardinals have the top defense in the Empire 8 and one of the strongest in all of Division III, allowing just 5.67 goals per game. They lead the Empire 8 and rank sixth nationally in caused turnovers per contest (15.11).

No. 2-Seeded Geneseo: Geneseo advanced to the Empire 8 championship game for the second consecutive season with a 15-8 victory over No. 3-seeded Brockport on Thursday evening. Rosemary Mahoney led the Knights with five points, all coming on goals. Lila Warner followed with four goals.

The Knights ended the regular season 10-7 overall with an 8-1 mark in conference play. Their lone Empire 8 loss came to St. John Fisher on April 8.

With A Win…

St. John Fisher would… win its 14th consecutive Empire 8 title and first under Marykate Edmunds, who was Geneseo's head coach from 2022-25…. match the Ithaca women’s cross country team’s conference record for consecutive Empire 8 titles (the Bombers won 14 straight E8 championships from 2003-2016)… claim its 16th E8 title overall… win its 28th consecutive Empire 8 Tournament game… extend the longest home winning streak in Division III to 24 games… record its 76th consecutive victory against an E8 team… record its second win against Geneseo this season.
